Alessandria Haslauer

–

Cedar City, Utah

Alessandria Mary (Piacentino) Haslauer, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones.

Born August 23, 1946 in Utica, New York, she was the oldest child of Norman and Carrie (Arcuri) Piacentino.

She was raised and lived in Deerfield, New York until her retirement. She has fond memories of her childhood on her grandparents farm, in Adirondacks (Peter’s Cottages) with her numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Sandy graduated from Whitesboro Central High school, class of 1964. She remained in contact with many of those high school friends. She graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College with an associate degree in Computer Science in 1993. Education and learning were important to her and she continued to learn throughout her entire life. Oftentimes being referred to as Dr. Sandy.

Sandy's career began at General Electric in the Aerospace division until the early 1990's when the division closed; she then finished her career at the Federal Reserve Bank in Utica, NY. She cherished the relationships and friends she developed throughout her long career.

Family and relationships formed the foundation of joy to Sandy. She was a devoted single mother to five children, sixteen grandchildren, and Nana to six great-grandchildren.

She was a loving sister, cousin, Godmother, and loyal friend to many. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to serving others and creating community, and felt most alive when helping those around her. Her love and support were a constant source of nourishment for her family and friends.

Food was a primary way for her to communicate her love; sausage bread, homemade applesauce, lasagna made from scratch marinara sauce, garlic bread, and amazing tomato and cucumber salads!

She held her Catholic faith devoutly and lived by its teachings every day, with an open heart, open door and a meal served to those in need.

In her younger years, she was athletic and adventurous, never allowing her physical limitations to define her. She loved to ski, play basketball, tennis and swimming. In the 1980’s you would often find her with the Larsons and the Briens at a campground with their pop-up campers; 18 combined children, laughter, pbj sandwiches, campfires, smores, swimming and so many memories.

The number of miles she spent traveling are too many to count between cross country road trips, weekend camping trips, museums, historic sites, college campuses or anything to support her children, grandchildren, or friends and family in their activities. In August 2023, she took a bucket-list Alaskan Cruise with many loved ones.

Her life was not without struggle, but through her strength, perseverance, and love she crafted a beautiful life! She lived with a genetic heart condition her entire life, her doctors were often amazed by her strength and endurance, as she lived life to her fullest.

She always seemed to have the words to say what was needed. We affectionately joked she was giving lecture # 956,756 however we all heard them....eventually. One of her lasting life lessons to those she influenced was always to be prepared—she taught everyone to travel with a swimsuit, sleeping bag, and a change of clothes, ready for whatever life might bring.

Predeceased by her parents, Norman and Carrie Piacentino, Sister Miryam Jacob (Maryanne Piacentino), Grandson Jonathan Armstrong and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by her children: Christine (Gary) Hughes, Teresa (Randall) Brien, Norman (Nicole) Haslauer, Melissa (Keith) Fuller, Valarie (Lynn) Nielson, Carmala (Aaron) Buzzell; Siblings: Frank (Chris) Piacentino, Norman (Kathy) Piacentino; Grand children: Rachel (Jordan) Munsterman, Devin (Cassidy) Hughes, Sierra (Rhett) Mueller, Isaiah Hughes, Jessica Hughes, Thomas (Sam) Reeves, Paul (Julia) Haslauer, Jacob Haslauer, McKinlee (Broc) Mathews, Danny Haslauer, Sarah (Jose) Armstrong, Tyler (Kimber) Nielson, Joshua Butler, Erin Nielson, McKinley Nielson, and Lincoln Buzzell; Great-grandchildren: Tatum Armstrong, Vivian Grace Reeves, TJ Reeves, Kaylie Nielson, Levi Nielson, EdenRose Mueller; Nieces: Ruth Ann Piacentino, Aimee Piacentino. And a special relationship with her cousin Joice (Ed) Corridori. Along with many other loved ones.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr Todd Garrett for his care, compassion, and straightforwardness the last ten years. Along with Ethan Bunker from Mission Hospice and the care and love offered by Cedar Health and Rehab during the last few weeks.

A Catholic Mass will be held Tuesday February 4, 2025 at 2:30 pm at Christ the King Catholic Church followed by interment at Cedar City Cemetery.
