Barbara Simmons

–

Cedar City, Utah

Barbara May Simmons was born September 14, 1927, in Los Angeles, CA. She was a loving mother of four children, grandmother of two, aunt of several, and a friend to many. She wed Douglas Cameron Simmons on September 29, 1945, and they resided in Woodland Hills, CA. She was a strong figure for the children growing up and had the amazing gift of positivity and optimism, which she passed onto them.

Barbara’s passion in life other than family was fashion, shoes, sailing, gardening, movies, music, and travel. She loved cats, especially Siamese, and had several throughout her life. She began her career as a model at Bullock’s Wilshire in downtown Los Angeles, CA, which then turned into her becoming a fashion coordinator and commentor during the daily dining room luncheons. Husbands and families would come view the fashion shows and dine on gourmet meals, while watching the models show their beautiful daily wares. As she grew into the corporate world of the Bullock’s family, she was recommended to help develop the new Bullock’s located at the Warner Center in Woodland Hills, CA, which included meeting with the world-famous fashion designer, Edith Head.

Barbara then went on to become a successful shoe representative for major department stores throughout California and traveled several times for business to New York City.

Holidays were always very eventful affairs; she loved to host, decorate, and cook for her family and friends. She also loved the ocean and sailed with friends on a racing boat, winning several trophies.

She later moved to Cedar City, UT in 2012 to relax and enjoy the easier life along with her son, William “Bill” Simmons. There she met several new friends and became active in the Presbyterian Church. She loved to crochet, bake cookies, and take drives up to Cedar Breaks for coffee and pie.

On September 18, 2024, just days after her 97th birthday, Barbara left us peacefully with her son, Bill, by her side, and went to join her first-born son, Douglas Craig Simmons (decd. 1977) and husband, Douglas Cameron Simmons (decd. 2007) in the beautiful graces of heaven.

She is survived by her three children, Claire Bunnell, William “Bill” Simmons, and Carolyn Fichera, and two grandchildren, Shanna Davis and William “Billy” Simmons.

She will be missed dearly, but never forgotten.

A Red, Red Rose
By Robert Burns

O my love is like a red, red rose, That’s newly sprung in June; O my love is like the melody That’s sweetly played in tune.
As fair are thou, my bonnie lass, So deep in love am I; And I will love thee still, my Dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my Dear, And the rocks melt wi’ the sun: I will love thee still, my dear, While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare thee well, my only love! And fare thee well, a while! And I will come again, my love, Tho’ it were ten thousand mile!
