Dr. David Goodwin

Dr. David Allen Goodwin was born on May 14, 1939, in Hayward, Wisconsin.

When he was 8 years old, his family moved to Idaho after joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was in Gooding, Idaho, that he met his future wife, Jenenne Ann Hansen. They were married in 1959 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

David was a strong believer in education. He received an associate’s degree from Boise State University, a master’s degree in history from Whitworth College where he was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and both a master’s degree and a doctorate in psychology from Brigham Young University.

A compassionate and dedicated psychologist, David devoted his career to helping thousands of troubled youth. With wisdom, empathy, and unwavering commitment, he guided young people through their darkest struggles, helping them find hope, build resilience, and turn their lives around. Many credit him with saving their lives and setting them on paths of purpose and success.

Together, Dave and Jenenne served faithfully as medical missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Asia North, South America, and the Eastern United States. They provided compassionate care and wise counsel to hundreds of missionaries, often stepping in during critical moments and, at times, helping to save their lives.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Goodwin. He is survived by his wife, Jenenne; his sons, Allen Goodwin, Jan Goodwin, and Brad Goodwin; his daughters, Daneen Goodwin and Trina Wright; along with his grandchildren and extended family.

He will be remembered for his deep dedication to family, education, faith, and his lifelong mission of lifting and healing the hearts of youth.
