Douglas Alan Degener January 30, 1947 – January 31, 2026
Douglas Alan Degener, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 31, 2026, after a life richly lived in love, service, and devotion to family. Doug’s life journey spanned more than seven decades, beginning in Los Angeles, California, and leading him to his peaceful retirement in Parowan, Utah.
Doug was born on January 30, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, and was named after Donald Douglas, founder of Douglas Aircraft. He spent his childhood in Lancaster, California, where his adventurous spirit was born. From riding scooters across the desert to fixing anything he could get his hands on, Doug developed a lifelong reputation as “Mr. Fix It.” His motto was simple: “If someone can make it, I can fix it.”
During his senior year of high school, Doug joined the Army National Guard and later completed basic and armored training with the United States Army. He served honorably during the Vietnam era and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. After losing some hearing in his right ear during tank training, he was reassigned as a supply sergeant. Doug was honorably discharged in 1970 at Fort MacArthur, California.
Doug met the love of his life, Roberta Savage, when they were just 12 years old in Sunday School at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He often said he knew even then that he would marry her. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on March 25, 1967, and shared a devoted marriage that became the foundation of his life. Doug frequently said that one of his greatest successes was convincing Roberta to marry him.
Together, Doug and Roberta raised four children: Jeffrey, Troy, Gregory, and Kimberly. Doug believed that “the greatest thing in the world is being a dad,” and he taught his children the values of honesty, hard work, and respect—especially respect for their mother. His love multiplied with the arrival of 14 grandchildren whom he adored deeply and unconditionally; Eric (Ashley), Katelyn Stout (Jordan), Megan, Alyssa, Travis, Kylie, Brooke, Justin, Brady, Tyler, Tanner, Drew, Sydney, and Peyton.
Doug spent much of his career working as an airplane mechanic at Douglas Aircraft and in management at Fellows Manufacturing in Cerritos, California. His strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family were among his proudest accomplishments.
Doug was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life, including Boy Scout Committee Chairman, Stake Executive Secretary, and Bishop in the Cerritos, California Stake. His service reflected his deep commitment to the gospel and to helping others.
In 2017, Doug and Roberta moved to Parowan, Utah, where they embraced a quieter pace of life. Doug could often be found driving around town, stopping by the post office, or enjoying a Diet Pepsi from Maverik.
Doug loved traveling with his family, especially trips to Montana, Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska. He was patriotic and enjoyed telling jokes, fixing things, and never lost his sense of humor. Above all, he cherished time with his family and found his greatest joy in being surrounded by them. They will forever treasure his example of love, loyalty, and generosity.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Roberta; his children Jeffrey (Courtney), Troy (Karissa), Gregory (Erin), and Kimberly Johnson (Kevin); his 14 grandchildren; his sister Pamela McFadden (Richard); his brother Clifford (Ranev) and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Mary Degener; his sister, Candace Busby; and his brother, Charles Degener.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Parowan Utah West LDS Building. A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
