Elizabeth “Libby” Jeffery Freeman was born December 30, 1925 in Seattle, WA to Dr. Raymond L. Jeffery and Margaret Hickman Jeffery. She was the middle child with an older sister, Patricia and a younger brother Thomas. The family moved from Seattle, WA during the great depression to Beverly Hills, CA where her father’s orthopedic practice bloomed. She witnessed the “swim gym” being built at her Beverly Hills High School (as seen in the film “It’s A Wonderful Life”). She was a very pretty teenager, often mistaken for Judy Garland. Her late high school and early college years were during WWII when most dating was done by letter writing. She married James Robert Freeman Jr in August 1947. On her honeymoon, she was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Salt Lake Tabernacle baptistry. Following the birth of their first two sons, she and Bob moved to Boston, MA where he worked at MIT and their third son was born. While there, Libby served in the Relief Society presidency with Danzel Nelson (wife of President Russell Nelson) and always said that Danzel was “her mother in the gospel”, Libby being such a new member of the church. The family later moved to CA where Bob took a teaching position at UC Berkeley and their fourth son was born. In 1961, they moved to Davis, CA where they then lived for 63 years and raised their family of 4 boys, Robert Jeffery, James Richard , John William and David Raymond. She has 26 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, and by her parents, brother and sister. She moved to Cedar city with her son John and daughter-in-law Carol in 2017. She loved Cedar City and told everyone she came into contact with what a great place it was, so, we can blame the growth of Cedar on her. In her decline she loved to watch the cloud formations, sunsets and birds off the back deck; always a great lover of nature and the workings of the Lord. Libby served her entire life in many church positions and in doing so much good for those around her. One of her favorite quotes was “all things work together for good for those who love the Lord”. She was a great example of a true lady, a lover of God and family. She will be sorely missed here but welcomed warmly on the other side.
