Gary Hugie

–

New Harmony, Utah

Gary Clarence Hugie, born on February 12, 1937, in Logan, UT, was an embodiment of compassion, dedication, humility, and support. A man of immense love and generosity, Gary touched countless lives, leaving a lasting impact wherever he went. His dedication was evident in his work, where he was recognized as the Wonder Bread Salesman of the Year where he worked for 37 years, and in his service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he held numerous positions, such as Elders Quorum President, Stake High Councilor, Bishop, Young Men's and Sunday School President. His ability to connect with people and make them feel important was a testament to his genuine spirit.

A devoted family man and a pillar of strength, Gary cherished his beloved wife, Dorothy who were married for 68 years, and his family above all else. His love extended beyond his immediate family, and he was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His hobbies, which included collecting coins and music, fly fishing, and camping and gardening provided him much joy and were a reflection of his humble and supportive nature. Gary's journey took him from Logan, UT to places like Baldwin Park, CA, Glendora, CA, and San Dimas, CA, before settling in New Harmony, Utah.

His legacy lives on through his wife, Dorothy Franks, his children, David & Cindi Hugie, Ken Hugie, Brian & Annie Hugie, Darsena & Kurt Meeder, Deborah & Bruce Haring, and his 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He now reunites with his parents, Clarence Hugie and Verda Hansen, who had preceded him in death. Gary's life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. MDT at the New Harmony Ward, 12 South Main Street, New Harmony, Utah. There will be a viewing at the same location from 9:30-10:30 just prior to services.

In accordance with the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we find comfort in the verse from Alma 40:12: “And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow."
