Karen Hill

–

Henderson, Nevada

Karen “Sue” Hill passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday,
February 28, 2026 in Cedar City, Utah. Sue was born on April 28, 1938 in
Kirkville, Iowa to Howard and Vivian (Akins) Siegrist.
Sue was raised on a small farm in Kirkville, Iowa where she and her
siblings could be found participating in endless family activities. Sue
particularly enjoyed ice skating on the local pond and playing basketball.
She participated on her high school basketball team for three years before
moving her senior year.
The family relocated to Las Vegas, NV in 1954 where Sue graduated from
Las Vegas High School in 1955. After graduation, Sue went to work as a
secretary for Nevada Power Company where she met and married a fellow
LVHS grad, Robin “Cap” Hill. Together they had five children which not
only kept her busy but became her entire life taking care of, supporting and
always doting on each of them. Summer vacations were always spent up
on Baker Creek camping, fishing and sitting around the evening camp fire.
Huge family holiday gatherings were the norm for many years!!
Once retired, Cap and Sue built their dream log cabin in Baker, Nevada
which would serve as the family hub for years to come. Many special
times, gatherings, amazing garden and gorgeous sunsets beset Sue. She
spent many hours gardening, tending to her flowers and walking the apple
orchard on the property but mostly she enjoyed sitting on the front porch
with her constant companion, Little Missy, chatting with her friends and
family. Sue was an amazing cook who truly enjoyed cooking for her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sue split time between the cabin and her home in Henderson, NV. At
home, she could be found tending her many potted flowers or sitting out
front on her porch waving and chatting with neighbors and friends. Sue
never met a person she didn’t like and conversations would abound with
anyone and everyone.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband “Cap” of 60 years, her parents Howard and Vivian Siegrist, her sister Marilyn Joyce Ambrose, her brother Gerald Siegrist, and grandsons Mathew Hill and Jacob Ortolano. Sue is survived by her five children, Roderic Hill of Elko, NV, Erin (Jim) Hill-Allen of Henderson, NV, Landis (Linda) Hill of Cedar City, UT, Alyssa Ortolano of Henderson, NV, Jory Hill of Boise, ID, 10 grandchildren, Daniel, Jason, Cassidie, Krystal, Jeremy, Noah, Chase, Taylor, Paisley and Landry, nine great-grandchildren, Tristin, Nevaeh, Emily, Alexis, Zoey, Presley, Lexi, Levi and Jaxson. She will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
