It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Lillian Ruth Johnson, known as Ruth to most, on June 23, 2024. Born on March 28, 1938, in Malden, MA, Ruth was a beacon of resilience, love, and compassion. She was a woman of great strength, having moved cross-country from Massachusetts to California before she was 20 years old and carving out an independent life for herself. Her life was a testament of service, both to her family and the community. As the scriptures say, "Well done, good and faithful servant!" (Matthew 25:23) Ruth was a pillar in her community, serving in Elder Affairs at the Kern County Human Services, Bakersfield, CA for many years. Her dedication to her work was remarkable, as she returned to school as an adult to attain her undergraduate and graduate degrees in social services. She was a person of action, truly embodying the spirit of the verse, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). Ruth's light shone brightly in her work, bringing warmth and assistance to the children and seniors of Kern County. Her passion for service was matched only by her love for her family and her pets, Lucy the dog and Charlie the cat. Ruth was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Robert Johnson, her son David Taylor, daughter-in-law Kat, and grandchildren Noah, Macy, and Jack. She was preceded in death by her son Robert, parents Clarence Todd and Lillian Hargrove, and siblings Thelma Cooper, William Todd, Richard Butland, and Mildred Blackmore. Ruth's memory will be cherished by all who knew her, a woman who lived life fully, with kindness, and a generous heart.
